Northstar-at-Tahoe
Sunday 14 March 1993

Weather

Horrible! It was raining at the lodge level and snowing at the summit. This meant skiing wet with blowing snow and poor visibility. Gave up at 1pm!

Conditions

Apart from the weather, the snow conditions were pretty good. At lower altitudes the snow was heavy at wet, but at the summit and down the back side, it was in good conditions.

Overall

This was not the best day of skiing we have ever had.

The same group that went to Squaw Valley the previous day went to Northstar. There was some dissention, but at the end of the day everyone came along.

Conditions were truly awful. The Shaeffer Camp lift on the backside had rain at the bottom and blowing snow at the top. After a couple of runs from the West Ridge, we spent most of the day on the backside. Walter discovering that 2000 vertical feet of unrelenting moguls is pretty challenging after all.
